Overview
Damp patches, peeling paint, white salt deposits and water running down an inside wall after rain all mean water is travelling through the structure. Repainting hides it for a few weeks. We trace the source and treat it.
Water usually reaches a wall from somewhere else: a cracked terrace or sunshade above, an external wall with hairline cracks, a leaking concealed pipe, a bathroom on the other side, or ground moisture rising from below. In Chennai the problem shows most during the north-east monsoon, when walls take days of wind-driven rain.
We inspect inside and outside, check the terrace, sunshades and plumbing near the damp area, and then recommend the fix. That may be crack sealing and a waterproof coating on the external face, injection grouting where water is moving through a crack or joint, or treatment of the terrace or bathroom that is actually feeding the leak.

Inspect the damp area, the outside face, the terrace above and nearby plumbing.

Stop the source
Seal cracks and joints, or treat the terrace or bathroom that feeds the leak.
Step 3
Inject if needed
Injection grouting where water is travelling through a crack or joint.
Step 4
Restore
Remove damaged plaster and paint once the wall is dry, then make good.

Will repainting fix a damp wall?+
No. Paint only covers the stain. If water is still reaching the wall, the patch comes back, often with peeling and salt deposits. The source has to be found and treated first.
Can you work on wall leaks during the monsoon?+
Often, yes. Injection grouting and some crack repairs can be done on damp surfaces. Coatings that need a dry surface are scheduled for a dry spell. We tell you which applies after the inspection.
